October 2007

Things here are moving at a fast pace. Halloween is upon us already!

Here in Utah, we have had five straight Saturdays with rainy or snowy weather. Luckily, this last Saturday was good weather so we made it outside to get the yard ready for winter. We transplanted some overgrown plants in our front yard and mowed one last time. I also cut down the canna lily stalks (they get so BIG—some get 8’ tall or taller--and the bulbs must be taken out of the ground before winter to survive). There are still a few things that could be done, but we feel pretty good about where we are. Now Old Man Winter can come and it will feel like we have done what we can.

The kids are out on UEA holiday today and tomorrow. Brittany is going to Lagoon one last time for the season. She has a party on Halloween with her friends. She got straight A’s the first quarter, so her grades continue to be good. I was also able to go into her advanced English class and guest teach one day. It was fun, and made me realize again why I enjoy teaching and interacting with students so much.

Jensen is going to be Jango Fett again this year for Halloween. The costume we bought last year still fits him this year, and he is as big a Star Wars fan as he has ever been, so that will be a good option for him again this year.

Andrew is in Junior High this year, so we do not need to worry about a costume for him this year. He is pretty oblivious of the holiday and did not enjoy putting things on his head when required for the costume, so this may be a good transition.

Below are two video clips. One is of Jensen when he was "Star Student" in his 4th-grade class (early September 2007) and the other is Brittany in her 8th-grade concert choir (early October 2007).
